Leadership North Texas presented by Oncor Builds Regional Stewards

The North Texas Commission opened the application period for the 2013-2014 class of Leadership North Texas presented by Oncor. Leadership North Texas is a graduate-level, regional leadership program designed to recruit, develop and support leaders who have a commitment to civic engagement and to the North Texas region. Participants hear from regional and national experts on various issues facing North Texas with discussion on how to address the challenges unique to our region.

The 2013-2014 program year also marks Leadership North Texas' fifth anniversary. Since the program's inception, 115 leaders from across North Texas have participated, including a State Representative, numerous mayors and city council members, city managers and economic development professionals, business leaders, higher education executives and non-profit leaders.

Over a nine-month period, the class addresses and discusses topics such as the history of North Texas, regionalism, our economy, workforce and education, sustainable development, the impact of incarceration and a plan for civic engagement. They learn best practices in regional stewardship from experts and other regions, and explore how to collaborate to best address current regional issues.

Leadership North Texas offers the Dan S. Petty Regional Steward scholarship to provide tuition assistance for up to three non-profit executives from North Texas. The scholarship is named for the North Texas Commission's former President and CEO who passed away in January 2011.

"Leadership North Texas provides a unique opportunity to learn about the issues, challenges and opportunities that affect us as a region in an environment where a mayor from a city in northeast Tarrant County can sit at a table with a real estate executive from Dallas County and a community leader from Collin County to learn that we are truly better together," said Scott Jessen, graduate of the inaugural class of Leadership North Texas, chairman of the LNT Alumni Action Committee and managing director of Citadel Partners. "We need advocates for the North Texas region who realize the power of collaboration to usher us into the next generation of our growth."

The application deadline for Leadership North Texas Class 5 is noon, June 7, 2013. Applications are available online atwww.leadershipnorthtexas.org or through the North Texas Commission office at 972-621-0400 ext. 110. Tuition for the program is $3,000.
